City of Lewistown to Launch new Emergency Communication service
to City and surrounding residents. The City will utilize a new communications
service effective April 16th that allows the city to send important and valuable
information directly to residents using the latest technology.
The Nixle Community Information Service allows us to create and publish messages
to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email.
Notifications can also be accessed online at www.nixle.com.
Messages may include severe storm warnings and watches, missing persons, evacuation
instructions, boil orders, as well as other relevant emergency, safety, and community information.
City of Lewistown Emergency Manager Barry Blackwell states the new emergency notification
and communication service will enhance and compliment the city's ability to get timely information
of an emergency nature out to the general public. Blackwell stated the Nixle system has the ability to
reach a large number of people rapidly and stated that prompt warning during alerting the public is
critical to public safety. According to Blackwell, the service is reliable, there is no spam or hidden
costs, and is FREE to use. Residents are urged; however, to check with their cell phone provider
because standard text messaging rates do apply, but in most cases receiving text messages are
normally free.
Residents of Lewistown and those in neighboring areas can immediately sign-up by registering at
www.nixle.com. A valid e-mail address is required for registration. Blackwell also emphasized that if
a citizen needs assistance in establishing an e-mail account and/or registering on the system,
please contact the City of Lewistown at 309-547-4300 or visit City Hall located at 119 S. Adams Street
during normal business hours and someone will assist you with the registration process.
